Better treatment for low vision diseases like Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration will be made possible through extensive research funded by grants awarded to Elizabeth Vargas, assistant professor of biological engineering at Utah State University. Her team will be developing models of retinal disease, leading to a better understanding of how low vision begins and how it can be prevented or treated. Six million people are impacted by macular degeneration, an increasingly common age-related eye disorder prevalent in older people.
