Window-Eyes, GW Micro’s PC low vision screen reader software, now available for free to PC users with Microsoft Office 10 or newer.

Having recently partnered up with Microsoft, the Fort Wayne, IN –based company now offers it’s screen reading software program (similar to JAWs or Dolphin) as a free download for the visually impaired community. Because Window-Eyes typically retails for around $800, this is a noteworthy announcement, as low vision PC owners can now magnify text and images on their computer, without having to make an expensive purchase. This free screen reader software makes it easy for visually impaired to navigate their PC with a keyboard, utilizing voice commands for e-mail access, the internet, Microsoft applications, or other programs.

Offering Window-Eyes as a free download makes the job market more accessible for low vision professionals, and classrooms more accessible for visually impaired students. Now, with free access to expensive magnification software, PCs are an ideal solution for the low vision community. As a free alternative to pricey screen readers, GW Micro and Microsoft’s assistive technology is an option worth considering.
