(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Judo is pleased to announce the launch of judo classes for blind and visually impaired athletes in South Florida. The program kicked off on June 20 and sessions are held from 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoons at the NFL Yet Center in conjunction with Miami Dade Parks and Recreation.

Jhonny Prado (Coral Springs, Fla.), head coach of the USA Judo National Training Site at North Miami, is the program’s director.

“The start of this program will allow visually impaired and blind students the opportunity to participate in judo, a sport that requires minimal adaptations and also will allow them to compete alongside sighted athletes,” said USA Judo CEO Jose H. Rodriguez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) “We want to thank the Miami Dade Parks & Recreation management and leadership for taking part in our vision to expand awareness of the sport of judo to this community.”

The program is open to all interested participants who are blind or visually impaired. For more information, contact Jody Cox at 305.382.8160. Source for complete article: http://judo.teamusa.org/news/article/14261
